The purpose of packaging is to protect your item while in transit.
I aim to achieve two things:
Puncture Prevention: The outer layer uses high-tensile, tear-proof materials to stop nails, sharp corners or heavy protrusions from breaching the package.
Shock Absorption: Inner materials compress and rebound to absorb kinetic energy from drops and rough handling, preventing the item from colliding with the outer walls of the packaging.
Transit Realities: Packages regularly undergo 50 Gs or more during standard sortation. A 30mph crash is equivalent to roughly 50Gs and a hard toss onto a porch or a fall in a warehouse generally falls in the 50G to 120G range.
Here’s a photo of badly packed LCD screen. This was sent to me and I sent it straight back properly packed.
Quite good puncture resistance but very little shock absorbtion. The panel is so loose it can collide with the outer walls.
