The reason why is because Apple stopped using disconnectable disk drives in their MacBooks a long time ago. From 2018 onwards, the data is stored on NAND chips that are soldered directly to the logic board rather than on a removable card. An economical approach may be to request a non-urgent approach to repair the original logic board and thus recover the data, without rushing the repair. You might specify a time frame of 3months as fine. This would yield the most economical quote.

In this situation, a rapid data-recovery strategy may be more appropriate, even if it means prioritizing data access over a complete repair of the MacBook itself. This would yield a higher quote.

The best approach might be to have a replacement logic board fitted in exchange for the liquid damaged original. This allows quick return of the MacBook with a fresh MacOS install.
