When you contact UK Mac Repair, you’ll speak directly to the engineer who will diagnose and repair your MacBook—there are no call centres or middlemen.
I’m a degree-qualified electronic engineer with a background in microelectronic design and I’ve successfully repaired more than 1,600 MacBooks over the past six years.
My goal is always to repair your MacBook in the most cost-effective way possible by repairing faults rather than replacing expensive assemblies wherever practical.
Rumours that Pancho does all the work and I just feed and walk him are exaggerated but he is a big part of the team and since he joined as a puppy in 2019 he’s proven himself as ‘a natural’ at managing HR and Security.
Apple’s Repair Method
Apple’s repair process is based on replacing complete assemblies rather than repairing them at component level.

This assembly-replacement model is kept simple by the very small number of assemblies they can choose to replace:
- Display £450 – £900
- Top case (inc. keyboard) £350+
- Logic board £400 – £950
- TouchId £80
- Trackpad £90+
- Battery £210 – £265
These are the main assemblies Apple typically replaces. Apple technicians are trained to replace assemblies rather than carry out component-level electronic repair.
Customers are often told, “You need a new logic board.” In reality, what this usually means is that a replacement logic board is the only repair Apple can offer.
Replacement is the most expensive way to repair. Expensive to the pocket and expensive in loss of your data which lives inside a few chips soldered to the logic board.
This common Apple shop scenario is like your car’s main dealer saying you need a new engine because the air filter is blocked.
Liquid damage can increase the quotation dramatically because Apple’s rules require, as a minimum, replacement of the logic board, keyboard and trackpad making these the most expensive repair quotations. Repair of a liquid damaged MacBook Air at Apple is at least £730 !
UK Mac Repair Method
We repair logic boards at the component level.
When you deliver your faulty MacBook we inspect and test thoroughly so we can confidently produce a fair fixed-price quote. This can take an hour or even two in liquid cases as it requires testing of each major part of the customers MacBook often with specialist test equipment or a working MacBook of the same model.
Other shops offering ‘free quotes’ might spend 1 to 10 minutes inspecting and only give you an estimate or a very high quote. A thorough diagnosis takes time, which is why I can confidently provide a genuine fixed-price quotation rather than a rough estimate.
Of course, producing a fixed-price quotation isn’t easy when the fault could be hidden amongst more than a thousand microscopic components. Finding it requires circuit diagrams, specialist test equipment and a methodical diagnostic process.
Repairing a logic board is somewhere between a criminal investigation and microsurgery. Some faults that appear straightforward can take 20 hours over several days to trace, while others that seem daunting are solved in a couple of hours. It all averages out over time.
That’s why I offer fixed-price quotations rather than charging by the hour. You know the cost before any repair begins, regardless of how long it ultimately takes to find the fault.
What you get when you choose UK Mac Repair is:
✔ Fixed-price quotation usually less than half of Apple’s
✔ No hourly labour charges
✔ If I can’t repair it, there’s no repair fee.
✔ Your existing hardware investment is preserved as much as possible
✔ Your data is preserved [unless a data storage chip itself has failed]
| Repairer | Fault domain & Solution | Tools Used | Typical Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple | Replace the logic board (data lost) ![]()
| ![]() | £500 |
| UK Mac Repair | Find the fault and repair (data not lost) ![]() | ![]() | £200 |
If Apple recycle the faulty logic board the net effect could be that another logic board needs manufacturing. This creates, by Apple’s own admission, another 150kg of greenhouse gases.
