Compare your Repair Options

There are 4 ways to solve your MacBook’s problem. 3 use good quality parts.

    1. New LCD panel fitted into your metalwork. You retain your high quality Apple camera, light sensors and backlight (recommended)
    2. Non-genuine clone display assembly  as offered by most high street shops. Your entire display from hinges up is discarded.
    3. New genuine Apple display assembly
    4. Used genuine Apple display assembly

Most shops offer a low priced non-genuine display assembly to replace your entire display from the hinges up. But they are lower quality than Apple and only have a 90 day warranty.

There are 5 very high quality parts in your genuine display assembly. 4 of them still work! Do you want them replaced with lower quality parts that probably won’t last as long? (click to zoom in)

Apple has always used very high quality parts because this translates directly to long term reliability. Most Apple displays can still perform perfectly even when 10+ years old. For example, the backlight reliability is equally important as the LCD panel. If it breaks you see nothing!

At UK Mac Repair, quality means more than simply working on the day it’s fitted. A quality panel delivers excellent image performance, remains reliable over years of use, withstands everyday knocks and flexing and provides a long service life.

Ofcourse, accidents happen but it is nearly always the fragile LCD panel that breaks.

So why pay Apple or other repair shops to replace all five expensive parts when just one has broken?

We have found the Sweet Spot – when a high quality repair solution is actually the cheapest!

Replace the broken LCD panel, not the entire Apple display assembly.

Installing a premium LCD panel preserves the overall build quality and keeps costs down — without compromising quality or reliability. We are so confident its the best solution we give a 365 day warranty!

CommentBest targeted solution as your money buys a high quality LCD panel with a long warranty. Your other high quality Apple parts are retained. Very few shops have the skills or clean room to perform LCD panel replacement - but we do!UKMR does not sell non-genuine clone display assemblies having experienced suppliers disregard for the Consumer Rights Act 2015 after expiry of their short 90 day warranty period for failures such as backlight or camera.
Sadly Apple only give 90 days warranty on a new assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The damaged LCD panel is replaced while the rest of the original Apple display assembly is retained. This allows you to keep the original camera, sensors, backlight and housing. Your stickers [if any] stay on. The gasket is replaced. The bezel is replaced.

The LCD panel used by Apple is made by LG Display. The panel we use to replace your broken panel is also made by LG Display and has identical resolution.

Yes. The genuine Apple light sensor that is required for TrueTone to work remains in place. Not so if you choose an aftermarket clone display.

Yes. Mini-LED refers to the backlight formed by a grid of hundreds of LEDs. The original Mini-LED remains in place.

Yes. ProMotion remains selectable. ProMotion allows applications to change the refresh rate of the display up to 120Hz. However, at some MacOS versions you sometimes get a slight flicker at the screen edge with ProMotion selected. This has been happening with genuine Apple displays (search the internet to see) and we have also seen it happen with the LCD panels we install. The flicker disappears when you go into Settings->Display and set the display refresh rate to 60Hz. Hopefully, future MacOS updates will correct this.

We use premium quality new LCD panels of the same specification of the original panel and sourced from the same manufacturers that Apple use. We specialize in replacing only the LCD of your MacBook, preserving the rest of the genuine assembly.

By choosing our service, you retain your original Apple aluminum lid, hinges, camera, ambient light sensor and LED backlight & light guide. This maintains the high quality of colors, brightness, camera performance and overall build quality. Genuine Apple products can last 15+ years. Third-party display assemblies can vary considerably in quality and often do not match the brightness, colour accuracy and durability of the original Apple display.

Ofcourse, only fixing what has broken means:

  • Existing damage to your aluminium chassis will remain – we do not replace the aluminium chassis/top lid of your display, only the actual LCD panel you look at. If your lid is too bent we may be able to source a replacement.
  • MacBooks are manufactured in sterile, dust-free factories using robots. We use a cabinet with filtered, laminar descending air flow to keep dust out but there is still a chance that some dust particles might get trapped between the screen panel and the LED backlight. Dust is not entirely avoidable. Such dust is not visible from normal viewing distance, only if you are extremely up close and looking for these particles.
  1. Disconnect battery and detach display from palm-rest. Your data is not affected.
  2. Remove bezel, LCD panel and gasket. The lid is then prepared to accept a new LCD panel.
  3. Fit rubber gasket. This supports the edge of the LCD panel, helps prevent light leakage around the edge of the panel and provides a cushion that prevents the glass from contacting the palm-rest.

  4. Fit new LCD Panel. Occasionally, after fitting a new LCD panel, a small amount of light leakage may be visible at the edge of the display because the replacement panel does not compress the gasket with exactly the same force as the original panel during Apple’s assembly process.

When this occurs, we believe it is preferable to apply a very fine bead of black sealant rather than increase the pressure on the LCD panel. This provides a reliable light seal without introducing unnecessary or permanent mechanical stress into the glass. It also fills a gap that usually collects dust and make the screen less susceptible to backlight staining from a splash of liquid.

  5. Fit bezel.
  6. Fit screen to palm-rest. We use a calibrated torque wrench to tighten the 6 hinge screws correctly.
  7. Fit angle sensor + calibrate. We have dedicated electronic equipment that calibrates the Hall Effect chip that senses the screen angle which in turn controls whether the MacBook sleeps or wakes.
  8. Reconnect battery & test

Yes. Repairing a MacBook screen does not require any change to your data. In fact no matter what you are having done to the screen it will be detached and then set aside.

We don’t need your password to change a screen although we may ask you to create a login for us so that we can update screen settings. Apple security is very tight and does not allow one user to read another users data.

Yes! There are a few ways we can help out.

  • You can pay an extra fee to expedite the work which means it will be completed during the next day.
  • We may be able to offer you an exchange screen. This is a genuine Apple screen where we have already installed a new LCD screen.
  • We may be able to offer you a loaner screen while yours is repaired.

The reason we quote 4 days by default is so that we can perform the same processes on multiple screen assemblies at the same time and improve our efficiency.

Apple – simply the Best Quality

Apple’s display assemblies can last 15+ years because of the five high quality [and expensive] parts, each made to last at least 10,000 hours before failure.

But when accidents happen it is nearly always just the fragile LCD panel that breaks. So why pay Apple or other repair shops to replace all five expensive parts when just one has broken?

You pay 50% – 60% less because we replace only the damaged LCD panel and retain the other high quality parts.

Even worse – 99% of shops only offer non-genuine clone display assemblies – Why replace all your high quality Apple parts with the lower quality parts of a non-genuine clone display assembly?

LCD panel replacement requires a clean room or at least a laminar flow cabinet to work in, specialist equipment, training, patience and most of all – experience. This is why most repairers prefer to just replace the complete display assembly instead. Thats fine if you can afford a new genuine Apple assembly (albeit wasteful) but if a non-genuine assembly is being installed you are getting a lower level of quality.
