iMac & Mac Mini sluggish performance
After a few years many iMacs & Mac Minis can suddenly become very sluggish. This is not the same thing users of MS Windows experience. MacOS is a variant of Unix which is a properly designed multi-tasking operating system far superior to Windows. Anyway, it didnt take a long time to become sluggish – it happened over night – you just didnt notice. They take much longer to boot and once booted they just hardly respond to the user taking 5 or 15 seconds to even open a finder window.
Owners often make the mistake of thinking oh it must be like a MS Windows system and it needs cleaning or re-organizing or something clever. This is very rarely the case. But people start researching the issue and succumb to advertisements for software tools that claim they can clean up or speed up their iMac or Mini. Don’t fall for these claims. MacOS is not MS Windows and does not suffer from slowdowns like Windows does over time. I bet that you have had a veery common hardware failure and the processor is running at 20% of its rated speed – enough to run the operating system but not enough to provide a responsive system that is useful to the human sat in front of it.
Your computer is effectively in ‘limp mode’ like a diesel car with a blown supercharger. You can drive it but you aint going anywhere fast!
