Most computer shops repair computers merely by replacing major parts. e.g. motherboard, disk, power supply.

They often say these parts are unrepairable and must be replaced when the truth is they don’t have the skills to repair them so replacement is the only solution they have.

This method works well when new parts are available and cheap.

Enter Apple! Apple [and their authorised resellers] only provides major parts and fixes the price very high. No Apple shop or reseller can perform a microelectronic repair.

I am not restricted in how I repair – So I can repair your logic board at the component level saving you a lot of money.

So choose your repair shop carefully!

For logic board faults:

• I inspect both sides of your logic board under a microscope to identify the fault and prepare a fixed price quote. This takes 1 –  2 hours.
• I work on a ‘No Fix – No Fee’ basis so if I am unsuccessful in repairing your logic board I will not charge you. I fix 9 out of 10 logic boards.
• If you decide not to have it repaired I charge a modest fee of £40 for the inspection and reassembly. I may offer to buy it for spares.

Did you know?

• Apple’s rules for repair insist on mandatory replacement of the keyboard & trackpad if they see any evidence of previous liquid penetration like a stain inside your MacBook. This adds a further £300 to the £600 logic board repair. We are more practical, we test the keyboard and trackpad to see if they have been affected.
• A Free Quote is worth what you pay for it! ‘Free Quotes’ are a way shops entice you in but a free quote is a quick guess at what is wrong and if their quote is fixed price it will usually be a very expensive quote to cover the ‘worst case’. Great profit for the shop if the issue is just a faulty £10 ribbon cable!

Should I get my MacBook repaired at Apple?

Possibly but only if it is within warranty and you are sure it did not suffer liquid damage. If there is a tide mark or corrosion they won’t repair under warranty and they will insist on replacing the logic board £600+ and full top case £300+. If it is within warranty and possibly liquid damaged let me clean it up inside before you take it to Apple – that way you are far more likely to get a warranty repair.
